EAGE/SEG Research Workshop 2017
Welcome to the EAGE/SEG Research Workshop 2017 on geophysical monitoring on CO2. This workshop picks up from the very successful SEG Summer Research Workshop on CO2 Sequestration Geophysics held in Banff, Alberta, Canada in August 2009. By joining EAGE and choosing a location in Europe we hope to broaden the international interest in geophysical monitoring of CO2 injection projects. The programme consists of a three days workshop, and it includes a Icebreaker Reception as well as a Workshop Dinner evening.
There has been a growing interest in the topic of this workshop as nations worldwide work towards reducing their greenhouse gas emissions. The workshop focus will be both on geophysical monitoring of Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) projects (i.e. CO2 injection into saline formations) and Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) projects (i.e. CO2 injection and storage as part of EOR schemes). Since the 2009 workshop, there have been significant developments and improvement in monitoring approaches such as fibre-optic sensing (downhole and at surface), seismic methods (e.g. FWI, Broadband), gravity field monitoring, and satellite interferometry (InSAR).
