Alexey varlamov Welcome to the 8th international geological and geophysical conference and exhibition St Petersburg 2018. Innovations in Geosciences – Time for Breakthrough held by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

As usual, in April of 2018, EAGE calls together directors of enterprises and reputed geoscientists and practitioners from Russia and many other countries to share experience and ideas, initiate new professional contacts and, at the same time, meet the most splendid city, Russia’s northern Venice, in its spring beauty.

The topics of the 2018 conference cover mainstream lines of research in geology and petroleum exploration; regional-scale studies; key issues related to the development of the Russian Arctic; innovative technologies of data acquisition and processing for exploration, including hardly recoverable reserves; discoveries in economic geology; support of small and medium enterprises in Russia in terms of information, analytics, and human relation strategies; as well as issues of environment conservation and mitigation of negative environmental impacts. The program comprises oral and poster presentations, R&D workshops, lectures by leading experts and scientists, round tables, and special training courses.

The Organizing Committee of the event will ensure high standards of the scientific and cultural programs. We are looking forward to sharing invaluable experience and stimulating results, making new contacts, and having unforgettable impressions from this event attended by prominent specialists in theory and practice of petroleum and mineral exploration, as well as the top managers of Russia and world largest energy and mining companies.

E Petrov Dear friends,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee, I am pleased to welcome the participants and guests of the 8th international geological-geophysical conference and exhibition Saint Petersburg-2018 held by the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

The event is gaining ever more prestige and importance from year to year. Its sessions, seminars, and round tables touch upon most vital issues of exploration and geology as a whole. Geoscientists from Russia and other countries, together with representatives of petroleum and servicing companies, share experience and work together on new breakthrough solutions in various fields of exploration and development.

The motto of the conference – Innovations in Geosciences – Time for Breakthrough – is obviously of great significance. We are now living in the time of digital Darwinism where innovations are no longer a simple element of organization but rather enter into the “DNA” of successful companies and are becoming the basis of their operation, a way of changing large industries. As a global trend in the today’s society, innovations cover all kinds of human activity and transform the economic and technological landscapes, including the geosciences.

It is hard to overestimate the value of the event as a successful way of joining the efforts of the geological community in solving specific professional problems, as a test area in achieving mutual understanding and cooperation of geoscientists in meeting challenges of modern geosciences and integrated exploration and production technologies. The current trends in these technologies develop in the conditions of globalization and open markets, which calls for seeking new ways and mechanisms of collaboration, coordination, and synergy.

I am sure the suggestions elaborated in the course of the event will give an additional impetus for closer cooperation of geoscientists and make basis for launching new mutually beneficial projects. I wish all participants much success and efficiency in their work.
