Workshop Overview

EAGE is planning a fourth Rock Physics workshop to take place in Abu Dhabi in November 2017, following the success of three previous workshops held in Dubai 2012, Oman 2014 and in Istanbul 2016. A total of 70 presentations from around the globe, from different perspectives, including academia, research, oil companies, and service providers really emphasised the significance rock physics has started to play in our everyday geoscience workflows. From frontier plays to field development and optimisation, rock physics is now an entirely integrated science.

In this fourth EAGE workshop we will be further building upon the main theme of the role of rock physics in Reservoir modeling and Characterization. The theme encourages a showcase of studies & challenges in the field-development life cycles, where rock physics has been integral.

Short Course: The Rock Physics “life story”

In addition to the anticipated technical programme of the workshop, a short course titled “From Cradle to the Grave – The Rock Physics “life story” of a Clastic Sediment, and its significance in QI Studies” is due to be presented by Dr Per Avseth. This short course will briefly demonstrate the link between the various geological processes and rock physics properties, and then show a few case examples where it is important to take into account the combined burial and rock physics modeling.

Rock Physics Lab Tour (ADRIC)

One of the highlights in the programme is the in-depth tour of the ADNOC Research and Innovation Centre (ADRIC) at the Petroleum Institute in Abu Dhabi.  Delegates will have the opportunity to visit ADRIC on the first day of the workshop, and in particular the Rock Physics Lab.  ADRIC is a research centre focused on the energy industry of Abu Dhabi.
