Description of the session
The Geothermal solutions session will be dedicated to focus on how geothermal and the petroleum industries can jointly contribute to the energy transition by taking into account all the scientific, technical and social challenges related to the global climate change. Thus, different kinds of oil or geothermal reservoirs will be investigated from exploration, drilling, exploitation and various kinds of numerical THMC modelling. Several questions will be addressed such as how to reuse existing infrastructures, especially oil wells, into geothermal wells for producing heat or electricity according to the temperature reservoir conditions. In parallel to co-production studies dedicated to sedimentary reservoirs, various geological environments such as volcanic formations and metamorphic and granitic basement rocks, will be presented in order to support a large increase of geothermal-based production sites in Europe in a near future.
